Unemployment benefit of this type is an insurance payment, not social assistance: you paid contributions from every salary and are getting your own money back. For residence permit holders that matters separately — drawing it does not count as claiming social support and does not harm your status.

The biggest trap appears before unemployment itself: a termination agreement signed with your employer counts as ending the job voluntarily and normally triggers a twelve-week block on payment. That decision is made before signing, not after.

Missing the deadline to register as a jobseeker. It runs from when you learn the job is ending, is very short, and breaching it costs money.
Signing a termination agreement without costing the block. Twelve weeks without payment often swallows the severance offered entirely.
Delaying registration as unemployed. Payment starts no earlier than the day you register, and lost days do not come back.
Earning on the side without reporting it. Permitted limits on hours and earnings exist; anything above reduces the payment, and concealment turns it into a repayment demand.
