Power and Gas: Switching Seamlessly

The new provider handles the whole switch. You can leave the default supply any time on 2 weeks notice, and any price increase opens every contract.

WHAT TO DO

The ideal rhythm: once a year, at every price-increase letter or when the bonus year ends — 15 minutes of comparison. Loyalty is punished in the energy market: existing customers get no bonuses.

Max recommends:

On my first switch I cancelled myself out of old habit — and nearly opened a gap, because the new provider did exactly the same again. Once is enough: now I only report the meter for switch day and check the final bill.

Lea recommends:

I now read the increase letter to the end: the special termination right is in there, and it only runs until the day the new price takes effect. Once I left the envelope lying around — and paid the existing-customer price for a year.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The provider raised prices in the fine print?

The increase letter must clearly state the special termination right. Disguised as advertising — the increase is contestable, and you can terminate before the increase date anyway.

Will my power be interrupted when switching?

No, physically nothing changes — same grid, same meter. Only the biller changes. Disconnection during a switch is prohibited by law.

Can the old provider block the switch?

No: switching is your legal right and the old provider cannot prevent it. Any open bills it pursues separately — they do not hold up the switch. The new provider handles the cancellation and re-registration.
