Max recommends:

Recipient templates saved in the service: sending to family is three clicks. For regular amounts I use rate alerts — it sends when the rate is right.

Keep receipts of cross-border transfers: when the bank or tax office asks, a clear purpose history saves weeks of correspondence.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will the tax office learn about my transfers?

The transfer itself is not a tax event. But banks may ask about the origin of large sums, and foreign income must be declared whether you transfer it or not.

Is the AWV report complicated?

One free call to 0800 1234-111 or the Bundesbank online form for transfers from 12 500 €. Five minutes of statistics — versus a fine up to 30 000 € for ignoring it.

Is the AWV report a tax?

No — pure foreign-trade statistics, free and without consequences. Ignoring it, however, risks fines up to €30,000. Banks print the reminder right on the transfer.

Sending money to my parents — taxed on their side?

Germany does not tax the transfer. The recipient country rules are a separate matter — gifts from children are often exempt, check locally.
